1 held in Katihar rape case

KATIHAR: The Katihar police on Friday arrested one person in connection with a rape of a woman and later trying to kill her husband by setting him afire in December last year at Belal Chowk village in Kheriya panchayat under Korha police station area in Katihar district.
The police swung into action after the rape survivor’s husband, Sunil Kumar Das, who received severe burn injuries after being burned by accused, along with wife, gathered some courage and turned at Katihar DM’s ‘janata darbar’ on Thursday and narrated the gory incident there.An FIR was lodged with Korha police station on Friday and Naresh was arrested.
According to the FIR, ward councillor Prabhat Ravi Das, in lieu of giving Indira awas, asked Sunil’s wife to come to his house. When she reached there, she was raped by the councillor and his men. “The survivor approached some influential people and a village panchayat penalized Das by asking him to pay Rs41,000. But the accused refused to pay the fine. ”
